![]() You might have noticed on the top right of the spread I wrote copyright, InkJournal trademark, registered, all rights reserved - it's an ironic reference to the Inktober episode of the Pentertainment Podcast where I share my icky feeling over the idea of social media community contest "ownership." But, for the second week of November, I opted for an all-autumn palette of warm colors. There was such a wide range of color this month. I also loved writing with Taccia's Saibimidori, and Straits Pen Bougainvillea. This was a close one, but KWZ El Dorado hit the spot and it didn't feel out of place in my Kure Azur since the finials are a bright, citrus yellow. And the pen itself is so colorful and bubbly. The 21kt gold medium nib has a great balance of smoothness and precision. The Sailor Pro Gear Kure Azure also makes for a great 30 Inks pen, as it uses a converter that is easy to clean out. The newest pen in my collection got the most love in November. I love doing this as it gives me the opportunity to experience each color in depth by writing with only that particular ink for a day. I encourage you to start after you finish reading this article. And that’s the last thing about this challenge. You may need to get through the shit first. You may feel bored around day 10 or 15, but keep going, because your best sentence may come at day 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, or 30. That’s when you hold on and discover how your mind actually works. That’s when your creativity really kicks in. By day 5, you’ll run out of surface-level stuff to write about. What makes this a challenge is that you need to overcome your own perceived limitations. No need to wait for inspiration, it’s there. This challenge simplifies the process: 1 sentence. For many people, writing every day can be a challenge, especially if they have a lofty goal, like 2 pages a day or a 1,000 words. ![]() The goal of this exercise is to practice observing deeper, seeing details that aren’t immediately visible. Some days I write something really good, other days, I just try to get a sentence down. And each day, I see something a little different in it. Each day, write one new sentence, as long or as short as you want.įor me, I chose to write about the intersection in front of my apartment. It can be your chair, your room, your dog, your family, your cup of coffee, anything, but whatever you pick, stick with it for 30 days. For the next 30 days, I want to challenge you to write about the same thing every day. We can apply this creative technique to writing as well. They challenge themselves to be more refined or more creative, bringing something new to the original idea. They see angles, colors, textures in a different way. Each time they draw, they dig a bit deeper. Each time they draw something, they see something different. In order for artists to improve, they need to draw the same thing over and over again. ![]()
